The struggle on home turf
The Baltimore Ravens are facing an unusual crisis. Once one of the most feared teams on their own turf, they have now lost four straight games at M&T Bank Stadium. Their last home victory came back on November 23 against the New York Jets.
The slump is bothering the players. Offensive tackle Roger Rosengarten admitted he could not even remember the last time they won in Baltimore. Running back Derrick Henry, who will face his former team this weekend, made the goal clear. Henry said the team needs to protect their home turf and make that the focus for Sunday.
Quarterback Lamar Jackson also expressed frustration, noting there is a lot of urgency to fix the issue. He called the home slump very disappointing for both the team and their fans.
Between 2000 and 2024, Baltimore had one of the best home field advantages in the NFL. They went 141-54 at home, which was the third best record in the league behind only the New England Patriots and the Green Bay Packers. Now, they are one of only two teams without a home win since Week 13 of last season, alongside the Arizona Cardinals.
How the losing streak happened
This home slide has been defined by mistakes and bad luck. During a 32-14 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on November 27, Baltimore turned the ball over five times. Jackson threw an interception and lost two fumbles in that game.
In a 27-22 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on December 7, a late touchdown catch by Isaiah Likely was overturned on replay. Later in December, Jackson suffered a back injury during a 28-24 loss to the New England Patriots, leaving backup Tyler Huntley to finish the game.
Most recently, the Ravens fell 24-17 to the New Orleans Saints on September 20 after giving up two fourth quarter touchdowns. Jackson has struggled during this four game home stretch, throwing just two touchdowns and three interceptions.
Coach Jesse Minter is taking a different approach to motivate his players. Earlier in the season, he focused on protecting home turf. This week, however, he wants the team to focus on themselves rather than the venue. Minter said the team needs to clean up things they can control and live with the results.
