Major Injury Blow for Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens have suffered a major blow ahead of Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints. Pro Bowl wide receiver Zay Flowers has been ruled out, meaning quarterback Lamar Jackson must play without his number one target.

Flowers aggravated his left hamstring injury during Sunday's 41-23 victory over the Indianapolis Colts. He missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday before doing limited work on Friday. The team initially listed him as doubtful but officially ruled him out on Saturday.

This is only the fourth game Flowers will miss in his four year career. His last missed game was during the 2024 AFC divisional playoff game against Buffalo. Over the last 18 games, Flowers has recorded 91 catches for 1,361 yards. In comparison, all other Ravens wide receivers combined have managed just 55 catches for 814 yards over that same period.

Who Will Step Up for Lamar Jackson?

With Flowers out and Ja'Kobi Lane on injured reserve with a wrist injury, Baltimore is missing two of its top three wide receivers. Rashod Bateman is now the most experienced receiver left for Jackson. The other healthy wide receivers on the roster are LaJohntay Wester, Devontez Walker, Elijah Sarratt, and Chris Moore.

Ravens coach Jesse Minter has challenged his healthy receivers to make the most of this moment. Minter said his advice to them is to "run at the opportunity." He noted that the first game showed the ball can go anywhere in their offense, so if they play fast and with confidence, the ball will find them.

The Ravens also placed backup cornerback T.J. Tampa on injured reserve with a knee injury and signed linebacker Carl Jones. They brought up offensive tackle Gerad Lichtenhan from the practice squad. This move suggests left tackle Ronnie Stanley might not play due to a toe injury. If Stanley is out, Carson Vinson will get his first career start.
