Shead Commits Future to Toronto

The Toronto Raptors have secured guard Jamal Shead for the long term. The 24 year old player has agreed to a three year contract extension worth 24 million dollars.

His agent, KJ Smith, confirmed the agreement on Thursday. This new deal will keep the guard under contract with the franchise through the 2029 to 2030 season.

It is a major milestone for Shead, who joined the NBA just two seasons ago. He was selected with the 45th overall pick in the 2024 draft. Before entering the professional league, he played his college basketball for Houston.

Impressive Numbers Off the Bench

Shead has quickly made a name for himself as a highly reliable player in Toronto. During the 2025 to 2026 season, he played in all 82 regular season games. He was one of only 18 players in the entire NBA to achieve that perfect attendance record.

The six foot one guard was highly productive as a reserve player. He recorded 354 assists, which averaged out to 5.4 assists per game. This was the highest number of assists off the bench in the entire league. It also set a new franchise record for a reserve player in Toronto history.

He also finished fifth in the league in assist to turnover ratio last season. Along with his playmaking, he averaged 6.6 points and 1.7 rebounds per game.

In the playoffs, Shead stepped up his game even more. He played in seven postseason games and made four starts. During that playoff run, he averaged 9 points, 5 assists, and 1.4 steals per game.
