Tragedy in Spain

Jesús de Miguel passed away at the age of thirty after suffering a cardiac arrest following an on-field collision with Real Oviedo goalkeeper Jesús Owono. The Royal Spanish Football Federation announced that no domestic matches would be played on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday as Spanish football mourns the player.

Despite the domestic postponement, Tuesday night Champions League fixtures proceeded as scheduled. Barcelona hosted Premier League side Aston Villa at Spotify Camp Nou. Before kick-off, the Champions League hymn was omitted, and a minute of silence was observed in honor of De Miguel.

Emotional Match for Raphinha

Barcelona forward Raphinha admitted that it was very difficult to play the match after learning about the death of De Miguel. Raphinha stated that the tragedy could have happened to any player, noting that the late forward was the same age as him.

Speaking after the game, Raphinha sent strength to the family of De Miguel and stated he did not feel good after seeing the news. Barcelona coach Hansi Flick also mentioned that the tragedy affected Raphinha a lot, just like everyone else at the club.

Goals and Team News

Despite the heavy atmosphere, Raphinha put in a stellar performance on the pitch. Lamine Yamal opened the scoring before Raphinha scored twice to secure a 3-0 victory over Aston Villa.

With these goals, Raphinha has now scored nineteen goals in all competitions this term, leading Europe's top five leagues. However, the win came with a slight concern as midfielder Rodri had to be replaced by Marc Bernal due to discomfort ahead of Sunday's match against Atlético Madrid.
