Rangers Stay Alive with Big Win
The Texas Rangers kept their hopes of an AL West title and a .500 regular season record alive on Saturday. They secured a 6-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins, pushing their season record to 80-81.
Danny Jansen and Jake Burger both hit home runs in the win. Jansen drove in two runs and expressed his excitement about the final game. He said they are excited for the chance and want to leave it all on the field.
Houston was 79-81 before their game later on Saturday. Houston holds the tiebreaker over Texas because they won the season series.
Key Plays and Injury Updates
Right handed pitcher Nathan Eovaldi made his first start since August 7. He pitched 4 1/3 innings and allowed one run in the first inning. Left handed pitcher Robert Garcia got the win by throwing 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief.
Brandon Nimmo made a major impact despite suffering from cramps. He hit an RBI double and made a sliding catch to save two runs in the third inning.
Nicky Lopez scored the first run for Texas after hitting a double in the second inning. However, he had to leave the game in the fourth inning. Lopez injured his left leg after stepping awkwardly on first base.
The Deciding Finale
The winner of the AL West this year will finish with the lowest winning percentage for a postseason team in a normal season. This will be lower than the 2005 San Diego Padres who finished 82-80.
Left handed pitcher MacKenzie Gore starts on the mound for Texas on Sunday. He has an 8-11 record with a 4.59 ERA. The Twins will start right handed pitcher Dean Kremer, who has a 4-5 record and a 4.97 ERA.
Rangers manager Skip Schumaker said that you have to win today and worry about tomorrow tomorrow. He added that Sunday is very important.
