Costly misses in overtime

The Los Angeles Rams lost 37-34 in overtime to the Buffalo Bills on Monday night. During the match, kicker Harrison Mevis missed a 50-yard field goal wide left in the first quarter.

Later, he had a 48-yard field goal attempt blocked in overtime. That kick would have won the game for Los Angeles.

Coach takes the blame

After the final whistle, coach Sean McVay spoke to reporters about the kicking problems. He stated that the performance was not even close to good enough and cost them the game.

Mevis mentioned that he felt he hit the ball well and gave it a chance. Meanwhile, McVay also took blame for a third-down play call right before the blocked kick, where running back Kyren Williams was stopped for no gain.

Mounting special teams issues

This latest miss marks the third blocked field goal attempt for the Rams since the start of last season. That puts them tied for the most in the NFL.

Since 2017, the team has recorded 81 missed or blocked kicks under McVay. The defeat drops the Rams to a 2-3 record in the standings.
