A Bittersweet Move To Seattle
Quenton Nelson has spoken about his trade to the Seattle Seahawks after spending over eight seasons with the Indianapolis Colts. The eight time Pro Bowl guard admitted the move was bittersweet because of the strong relationships he built in Indianapolis. However, he expressed excitement about joining the reigning Super Bowl champions.
The Colts traded Nelson to Seattle in exchange for a third round draft pick in 2027 and a fifth round pick in 2028. Indianapolis recently fired general manager Chris Ballard on Oct. 19 after a 2-4 start to the season. Interim general manager Ed Dodds met with Nelson to inform him about interest from Seattle before completing the deal.
Changes On The Offensive Line
Nelson will play left guard for Seattle, which is the only position he has played during his NFL career. The move pushes Grey Zabel to right guard, while Anthony Bradford moves to a backup role. Seattle head coach Mike Macdonald praised Nelson for his physical and relentless style of play on the field.
The Seahawks currently hold a 4-3 record after a 20-3 win against the Kansas City Chiefs. Quarterback Sam Darnold went without taking a single sack in that victory. However, left tackle Charles Cross hurt his ankle in the fourth quarter against Kansas City and did not practice on Thursday.
New Assignment And A Familiar Rival
At 30 years old, Nelson is in the final year of the four year extension worth 80 million dollars that he signed in 2022. He is focusing on learning a new offensive system under coordinator Brian Fleury instead of thinking about his contract. Offensive line coaches John Benton and Quinshon Odom are helping him prepare.
With Dante Fowler Jr. already wearing number 56 in Seattle, Nelson will now wear number 53. His first game with the Seahawks comes on Monday night against the Chicago Bears. That matchup will see him face defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, who recently joined Chicago in a trade with Tennessee.
