Fresh injury blow for Pittsburgh offense

The Pittsburgh Steelers have placed wide receiver Roman Wilson on the injured reserve list. He injured his finger during the team's Week 5 victory against the Indianapolis Colts and will miss at least four weeks.

Wilson is a key downfield target for quarterback Aaron Rodgers. He already recorded two touchdown catches this season. His absence creates another gap in the passing attack, making him the second key wideout lost to injury in two weeks.

Roster reshuffle ahead of Tampa Bay clash

Last week, veteran wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr went on injured reserve after aggravating a foot injury. The Steelers also ruled out receiver and special teams player Ben Skowronek. This leaves Pittsburgh without three of their top five pass catchers against Tampa Bay.

To fill the gaps, the team promoted receivers Brandon Smith and Brandon Johnson from the practice squad. Tight end Pat Freiermuth was added to the injury report on Saturday with a calf issue and is listed as questionable. However, top wide receiver DK Metcalf returned to the group after missing Friday practice due to an illness.

Rodgers trusts practice squad depth

Aaron Rodgers addressed the team situation while preparing for Sunday in Tampa. He stated that the squad would rely on internal choices to keep the offense moving.

Rodgers said that it seems like at this point it is just in house options. He noted they have a talented group of players who played at the highest level and made plays. He added that he has always been a fan of Brandon Johnson, who had a locker right next to his last year, and mentioned he knows Brandon Smith from New York and is a big believer in him.
