Barkley Stays In Philadelphia

Star running back Saquon Barkley will not be traded before the upcoming trade deadline. Speculation had been growing that the Philadelphia Eagles might move him, but the team plans to keep the 29 year old on their roster.

Barkley has two years and just over $35 million remaining on his current contract. Philadelphia sits at a disappointing 2-5 record this season. Injuries have hit the squad hard, including quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Eagles Strategy At The Deadline

General manager Howie Roseman has been listening to trade offers for several players. He is looking at acquiring future draft choices. Roseman usually buys players at the deadline, but the team's record gives him a rare chance to operate as a seller instead.

Even with those talks, Philadelphia management believes the team has enough talent to be competitive in 2027 and beyond. That belief means Barkley stays put. At the same time, Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor is now considered the main top running back left on the market before the November 10 deadline.

Injuries And Determination

Barkley is preparing to suit up on Sunday night against the Washington Commanders. He managed only 10 snaps last Monday against the Dallas Cowboys after suffering a back injury. That issue came while he was trying to work through a pre-existing hamstring problem.

He missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday before returning to a limited session on Friday. While he is not at 100 percent, he remains eager to get on the field. This is shaping up to be his first of three seasons in Philadelphia without a playoff appearance.

Barkley Speaks On Playing

Barkley spoke to reporters on Friday about his desire to play through the discomfort. "One day I'm not going to be playing football. Whenever that is, I don't want to look back and be like, 'I could've gave it a chance and I didn't,'" Barkley said.

He added that his motivation is simple. "I like playing football. So if I have an opportunity to play, I'm going to try my best to play," Barkley stated.
