Barkley set for return

Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley is expected to return to practice on Thursday. He is in line to play on Monday against the Dallas Cowboys.

Barkley left early in the first quarter during a Week 4 loss to the Los Angeles Rams with a hamstring injury. He has missed the last two games.

Mounting team injuries

The offense has been operating without star quarterback Jalen Hurts, who is out for the year with blood clots in his lungs.

With Barkley, Tank Bigsby, and Will Shipley all injured recently, the team was down to their fourth string running back in Dameon Pierce against the Carolina Panthers last week. Bigsby and Shipley remain on injured reserve.

The ground game currently ranks 29th in rushing yards per game with 82.2. Barkley has appeared in four games this season and has 36 carries for 182 yards.

Lineup and defensive updates

The offensive line has been missing three fifths of its original starting five. Lane Johnson retired, Cam Jurgens was traded, and Landon Dickerson has a knee injury.

On defense, players with injuries include Nolan Smith, Jalyx Hunt, and Jonathan Greenard. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said he was hopeful Greenard could play against the Cowboys. Fangio also called it possible that Hunt plays depending on practice this week.
