Eagles Change Starting Quarterback
The Philadelphia Eagles are making a change at quarterback for Sunday's game against the New York Giants. Joe Milton will get the start under center. He becomes the team's third different starting quarterback this season.
The Eagles enter Week 9 in last place in the NFC East. They currently hold a record of 2 wins and 6 losses after losing six consecutive games. Milton is replacing Tanner McKee, who started the team's last three games.
How Milton Arrived in Philadelphia
Philadelphia added Milton to the roster on Oct. 16, signing him off the Dallas Cowboys practice squad. The move came one day before the Eagles placed starting quarterback Jalen Hurts on injured reserve.
Two days after placing Hurts on injured reserve, the team and his agent announced that Hurts would be sidelined indefinitely. Medical doctors discovered multiple blood clots in both of his lungs. Hurts is expected to miss the remainder of the season.
Milton's NFL Background
Milton spent last season as the backup quarterback to Dak Prescott in Dallas, making four appearances off the bench. He initially arrived in Dallas through an April 2025 trade with the New England Patriots. The Patriots drafted Milton in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL draft.
Earlier this year, Dallas waived Milton after he lost a competition for the backup quarterback role to Sam Howell. However, Dallas brought Milton back to their practice squad just a few days later.
McKee Moves to the Bench
McKee heads to the bench after guiding the Philadelphia offense over the past three games. During those three starts, he completed 63.2 percent of his pass attempts.
McKee total statistics over his three starts include 638 passing yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. The Eagles now turn to Milton as they prepare to face their division rivals on Sunday.
