Ring Night Celebration

Madison Square Garden hosted a festive pregame ceremony on Tuesday. The Knicks raised their NBA championship banner and received their rings.

Jalen Brunson spoke to the fans inside the arena during the celebration. He told the crowd that the joy the city had during the summer is something they would love to replicate again.

New Faces Lead Philadelphia

The Philadelphia 76ers sent an early message that they will contend for the title. They added LeBron James and Jaylen Brown during the offseason.

Tyrese Maxey led the scoring with 28 points. Brown contributed 19 points, eight rebounds, and six assists in his first game since joining the team from Boston.

LeBron James began his NBA record 24th season by finishing with 14 points, nine rebounds, and six assists. Joel Embiid added 13 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists.

Reserves Make the Difference

The Knicks focused heavily on the bigger names on the Philadelphia roster. This left the 76er reserves open for shots.

Anfernee Simons hit three three-pointers. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope added two more from beyond the arc as the bench took advantage of the space.

The Comeback Win

The New York offense struggled on the night. They shot just 37 percent overall and only 33 percent from three-point range.

Philadelphia closed the third quarter with an 11-0 run. Brown capped this stretch with a buzzer-beating three-pointer to give his team an 83-76 lead.

Karl-Anthony Towns scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the hosts. He hit a late three-pointer to cut the lead to 96-95, but Embiid answered right back with a three of his own to keep Philadelphia ahead for the 106-100 win.
