Pete Alonso Hits Two Home Runs on Son's Birthday in Orioles Win

A Birthday to Remember

Pete Alonso had a double reason to celebrate on Monday. The Baltimore Orioles slugger marked his son Teddy's first birthday by hitting his 39th and 40th home runs of the season in a 4-3 win against the Toronto Blue Jays.

The special day started at home with Alonso and his wife Haley celebrating with presents and a large birthday banner. Once he arrived at the ballpark, Alonso went to work. He hit his 39th home run to right field in the first inning.

A Special Song and a Milestone

In the eighth inning, Alonso changed his walk-up music to a song by Earth, Wind and Fire as a special tribute to his son. He then hit a two-run home run to reach the 40 home run mark.

Alonso is the first Orioles player to reach 40 home runs in a season since Anthony Santander did so in 2024. He also leads the American League with 108 RBIs.

Alonso said the moment was special and hoped he could keep the game in the archives so his son could appreciate it when he grows up. Manager Craig Albernaz praised Alonso's work ethic and consistency, noting that hitting 40 home runs and getting over 100 RBIs does not happen by accident.

Adjusting to Fatherhood

Alonso admitted that adjusting to a new team and a newborn son took some time. He explained that finding a balance between being a husband, a father, and being ready for games was a challenge.

He made a few routine tweaks as the season progressed. Alonso credited his teammates and his wife for supporting him through the transition as he found his rhythm on the field.
