Pete Alonso haunts former team with another home run at Citi Field

Alonso strikes again

Pete Alonso is making quite an impact on his return to New York. The Baltimore Orioles first baseman hit another home run against his former team on Wednesday night. This came just a day after he hit his 300th career home run to tie Tuesday's game in the ninth inning.

This time, Alonso went deep in the first inning against emergency starter Xzavion Curry. The Citi Field crowd stood to applaud the player they call the Polar Bear and chanted his name before he hit a 74 mph curveball 410 feet into the left field stands.

Fans still love the Polar Bear

Even though he now wears Baltimore colors, Mets fans showed their love. The crowd of 28,097 cheered as Alonso ran around the bases. It was a slightly quieter reaction than Tuesday, when Alonso celebrated wildly and even took a rare curtain call as an away player.

The fans also used the moment to chant against Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns. Alonso spent seven seasons with the Mets, hitting a franchise record 264 home runs. However, the team did not try to re-sign him as a free agent last offseason. Instead, he signed a 155 million dollar, five year contract with Baltimore.

The Mets have struggled this season despite an opening day payroll of over 350 million dollars. They suffered a 12 game losing streak in April and were officially eliminated from playoff contention on Monday night.

A special moment with fans

After hitting his milestone 300th home run on Tuesday, Alonso made sure to reward the fans who caught the ball. Michael Shaw, Nick Maldarella, and Chris Makarius returned the ball to him.

In exchange, Alonso signed bats, balls, and the shirts they were wearing. He also offered them tickets and batting practice access at Camden Yards for next season. "I mean, who doesn't love Pete?" Shaw said after meeting the star. Alonso now has 37 home runs and 102 RBI for the Orioles this season.
