Perez Dominates Braves with One Hitter to Snap Marlins Losing Streak

Perez Dominates on the Mound

Miami Marlins pitcher Eury Perez put on a brilliant performance on Friday night. The 23 year old right hander pitched a one hitter to secure a 3-0 victory over the playoff bound Atlanta Braves.

Perez, who has an 8-11 record, entered the game with a 0-3 record and a 9.76 ERA in six career starts against the Braves. He completely turned his fortunes around in this game. He allowed his only hit when Sean Murphy hit a single to left field on a first pitch sinker to start the sixth inning. Perez struck out eight batters and walked only one. He threw 105 pitches to secure his first complete game in 68 big league starts.

Marlins Find Their Spark

This was only the 11th complete game shutout in the major leagues this season. It was also the 21st complete game overall.

The Marlins offence did enough to support Perez and snap a six game losing streak against the National League East champion Braves. Joe Mack broke the scoreless tie in the seventh inning with a home run off Grant Holmes, who is now 10-6. It was Mack's 14th home run of the season.

In the eighth inning, Heriberto Hernandez hit an RBI single, and Griffin Conine added a home run off Didier Fuentes to secure the 3-0 win. With this victory, Miami reached 79 wins, matching their total from last season. The team is trying to avoid a third straight losing season.

Before the game, there was a brief moment of silence for former Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez. This marked the 10th anniversary of when the two time All Star died in a boating accident.
