Late game injury
Atlanta quarterback Michael Penix Jr. came out of a 30-23 overtime loss to the Baltimore Ravens late because of a rib injury. He does not believe it will be a long term issue.
Penix was sacked by linebacker Tavius Robinson with 27 seconds left while the score was tied. He stayed down briefly before walking off under his own power. Backup Tua Tagovailoa came in for one play before Penix reentered. The Falcons had to punt and the game went into overtime.
Missing overtime
Penix did not return for the extra period. Tagovailoa came back in and threw an interception to Kyle Hamilton that ended the game with 2,11 left on the clock.
Penix said that if the Falcons got the ball to begin overtime, he probably would have come back in. As he sat on the bench and got cold during a long Ravens drive, the pain worsened. Falcons coach Kevin Stefanski noted that Penix was trying to get comfortable on the bench but could not do so.
Penix finished the night going 19-of-32 passing for 240 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions. He expressed frustration at missing a big moment.
