Payton Demands Better Focus as Broncos Offense Struggles

Sean Payton says the Denver Broncos must focus on the details to fix their struggling offense rather than changing who calls the plays.

No Championship Football

Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton is not happy with his team's offensive output. After four games, the Broncos have two wins and two losses but sit near the bottom of the league in several key areas. They are 27th in scoring, 27th in total yards per game, and 29th in rushing yards.

Payton admitted that the current standard is not good enough. "Certainly this isn't championship football, what we see," Payton said on Wednesday. The coach is looking for quick answers to turn things around.

Play Calling and Player Performance

Some have questioned if Payton should take back play calling duties from offensive coordinator Davis Webb. However, Payton believes the issue lies in execution rather than who calls the plays. He stated that the team must focus on the details of every single play.

Quarterback Bo Nix has faced heavy criticism. Nix is 22nd in the league with a 46.1 QBR and averages just 5.9 air yards per pass attempt. The team also struggles to make big gains, ranking 30th in explosive plays. In their recent 24-14 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, running back RJ Harvey was the main target, catching 10 passes for an average of 6.8 yards.

Wide receiver Courtland Sutton defended his quarterback, saying the entire unit shares the blame. Nix added that he is blocking out the external noise and focusing only on his coaches and teammates.
