A Tough Act to Follow
Paul George is well aware of the pressure waiting for him in Boston. The 36 year old forward joined the Celtics in a major summer trade that sent 2024 NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers. Boston fans have not hidden their frustration over losing Brown, but George is taking the reaction in his stride.
During his introductory press conference on Tuesday, George said he understands why the fans are upset. He acknowledged how much Brown meant to the city and the organization, stating that he does not take the negative reaction personally.
Overcoming Injury Troubles
George joins Boston after a difficult few years marked by injuries during his time with the LA Clippers and the 76ers. He underwent knee surgery before last season but insists those physical issues are now behind him.
The veteran forward declared that he is in a great place physically and mentally. He believes he has turned a corner and is ready to establish himself on the court again. George explained that he is not trying to fill Brown's shoes, but wants to keep the Celtics in championship contention.
New Faces in Boston
George is not the only new arrival in Boston. Team president Brad Stevens has also brought in 38 year old guard Mike Conley and center Mitchell Robinson to support franchise star Jayson Tatum. Tatum is preparing for his first full season since tearing his Achilles tendon in May 2025.
Conley, who is entering his 20th NBA season, will play a backup role behind Derrick White and Payton Pritchard. Robinson, who recently won a title with the Knicks, is expected to back up Neemias Queta. Conley noted that both he and George are highly motivated because neither has won an NBA championship yet.
