Facing Barcelona at Camp Nou
Aston Villa travel to the Camp Nou on Tuesday for a European fixture against Barcelona. Unai Emery's team enter the game in strong form after winning all three of their matches in the competition this season.
Defender Pau Torres is eager to test himself against Barcelona star Lamine Yamal. The Spanish defender understands how difficult it will be to stop the 19 year old winger during the match.
Torres stated that players always want to take on the best to see where they stand. He said it would be a pleasure to defend against Yamal, adding that one player is often not enough to mark the unpredictable forward.
Respect for Yamal and Rodri
Yamal finished behind Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe and winner Harry Kane of Bayern Munich in the Ballon d'Or race. Torres admitted he wanted a Spaniard to win the award and felt Yamal deserved it. He expressed confidence that Yamal will keep improving and win the trophy very soon.
If Villa could sign any player from Barcelona, Torres revealed he would choose midfielder Rodri. The defender played alongside Rodri at Villarreal before the midfielder moved to Barcelona from Manchester City in the summer.
Torres praised Rodri for completely dominating the midfield. He explained that Rodri contributes massively to both defence and attack, calling him the best player in the world in his position.
Dreaming of Champions League Success
Torres is currently playing in his fourth season at Aston Villa. He has already won the Europa League twice under manager Unai Emery during their time together at Villarreal and Villa.
The defender revealed that he sometimes tells Emery that they should aim for the Champions League after their past European success.
Torres acknowledged that winning the trophy is a very difficult task and accepted that Villa are not favourites for the title. However, he insisted that the team can compete with any opponent when they perform at their very best.
