Injury blow for Henderson

New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson is expected to miss multiple weeks because of a high ankle sprain. League sources confirmed the setback to Adam Schefter.

Fortunately for the team, Henderson will not need surgery. The Patriots are hoping that the second-year running back returns relatively soon.

How the injury happened

Henderson suffered the injury in the second quarter of New England's victory Sunday over the Las Vegas Raiders. The incident occurred at the end of an 11-yard run when Henderson was tackled by safety Jeremy Chinn along the sideline and came up hobbling.

This is another ankle issue for the young runner, who also missed New England's season opener last month because of an ankle injury. He has 163 yards and one touchdown on 42 carries in four games this season.

Backups ready to step up

With Henderson sidelined Sunday, Corey Kiner served as New England's primary backup to starting running back Rhamondre Stevenson. Kiner rushed for 52 yards on six carries but lost a fumble, while Stevenson had 64 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.

The Patriots hold a 3-2 record and are likely to bring up Lan Larison from the practice squad for Sunday's game against the New York Jets, who sit at 2-3, to provide a third option at running back. Larison joined the team as an undrafted free agent in 2025 out of UC-Davis and played in the 2026 season opener when Henderson was out.
