Campbell sidelined again
New England Patriots left tackle Will Campbell has an MCL sprain in his right knee. He is expected to miss some games. The initial belief is that this injury is not as bad as the Grade 3 torn MCL he suffered on the same knee last November.
Campbell returned for the postseason last year before he was fully healed and struggled to protect quarterback Drake Maye. The latest injury happened in the second quarter when a Las Vegas Raiders defender tackled running back Rhamondre Stevenson into Campbell's leg on a rushing play.
Next man up
Rookie first-round pick Caleb Lomu replaced Campbell in the game. Lomu played left tackle in college at Utah and is now a top candidate to start while Campbell recovers.
Head coach Vrabel spoke to reporters about Lomu after the match. Vrabel said that he did not think the moment was too big for the rookie and that you did not really notice him, which is probably a good thing.
Squad depth tested
The Patriots might also get some help from Marcus Bryant, a 2025 seventh-round pick who was tracking to be the top swing tackle in the preseason. Bryant was placed on injured reserve after being rolled up on in a preseason game and was eligible to start practicing last week.
New England has suffered several injuries to the offensive line, losing multiple players for the season. Running back TreVeyon Henderson is also expected to miss multiple weeks with a high ankle sprain. However, Vrabel mentioned that there is a chance receiver A.J. Brown will be activated off injured reserve to play against the New York Jets on Sunday.
