Patriots Lose Key Receiver
The New England Patriots have placed veteran wide receiver Mack Hollins on injured reserve with a calf injury. Hollins hopped off the field on his right foot during the third quarter of last Sunday's win over the Buffalo Bills. His role had grown after the team lost A.J. Brown to a high ankle sprain in the season opener.
Hollins currently leads the team with 15 receptions and 209 receiving yards. Regarding his recovery, Hollins said on Wednesday that he is working as hard as he can to get back as fast as he can, adding that as a veteran you have to stay out of your own way sometimes. Brown is eligible to be designated for return from injured reserve next week.
Roster Changes in New England
With Hollins sidelined, the Patriots have just four receivers on their roster for their upcoming home game against the Las Vegas Raiders. Those four players are Romeo Doubs, Pop Douglas, Efton Chism III, and Kyle Williams.
In addition to Hollins, the club placed veteran fullback Reggie Gilliam on injured reserve. This marks the 19th player the Patriots have put on injured reserve this season, already exceeding their total from the previous year. Meanwhile, special teams ace Brenden Schooler was activated from the non football injury list, and cornerback Kindle Vildor was signed to the 53-man roster.
