Big defensive losses
The New England Patriots will be missing two key defensive players when they travel to face the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. Coach Mike Vrabel confirmed that starting cornerback Christian Gonzalez and defensive tackle Christian Barmore are both out with shoulder injuries. Gonzalez did not practice all week following a physical tackle in the first quarter of last week's loss to the Jaguars.
Vrabel addressed the situation on Friday. That is what the situation is, there is nothing we can do about it, Vrabel said. We can get the guys that will be in there ready.
Shuffling the defense
To cover for the absence of Gonzalez, the coaching staff is looking at several options. Slot corner Marcus Jones might play more on the outside. Third year player Charles Woods is also expected to feature alongside starter Carlton Davis III.
Additionally, rookie Karon Prunty could be called upon for depth. Prunty is a fifth round pick from Wake Forest who currently contributes on special teams. The Patriots enter the matchup with a 1-2 record, while the Bills sit at 3-0 and boast the fourth best total offense in the league through three games.
