Turnovers and Tackling Troubles
New England travels to South Florida with a poor historical record. The team is 18-43 all time in Miami and faces another tough task this week. Former cornerback Logan Ryan pointed out key areas where the team must improve.
Film study shows a balanced squad that is struggling with mistakes. New England has given away 14 turnovers this season, which is the second most in the league. At the same time, the defense has forced only seven turnovers.
Tackling has also been a major issue. New England has logged 34 missed tackles so far, including a season high 11 missed tackles against Chicago. With ten days to prepare since that game, coach Mike Vrabel will want these fundamental errors fixed quickly.
Quarterback Threats and Injury Blows
The defense faces a specific challenge against Miami quarterback Malik Willis. Willis has gained 223 rushing yards, placing him second among all NFL quarterbacks on the ground. Stopping a running quarterback is vital, as scrambling plays can break defensive discipline.
New England quarterback Drake Maye has also shown great mobility. Maye has rushed for 211 yards, ranking fifth among quarterbacks. He noted that staying hydrated early in the week is vital when playing in the South Florida heat. Kicker Andy Borregales also warned about potential thunderstorm delays.
Roster depth will be tested due to several key absences. Receiver A.J. Brown was ruled out on Saturday with a knee issue after leaving practice earlier in the week. Running back TreVeyon Henderson is also out due to illness. That leaves just three healthy receivers on the 53 man roster, though Mack Hollins is progressing on injured reserve.
Road Record and Cap Adjustments
New England holds a 1-3 road record this year after going 9-0 away from home last season. Defensive tackle Milton Williams emphasized that winning division games on the road remains a key goal. Miami enters the game at 1-5 after a 28-25 win over the Jets.
Off the field, management has cleared extra financial space. By restructuring tight end Hunter Henry's contract, the team added $3.21 million. This increased their available space from $1.5 million to $5.245 million.
This money helps cover roster additions when players go on injured reserve. It also gives flexibility ahead of the November 10 trade deadline.
