Boost for Carrick
Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has received a direct boost ahead of his side's European match against Roma. Left back Patrick Dorgu returned to training at Carrington on Monday after spending over a month on the sidelines.
The 22 year old defender has not played for United since their 1-1 draw against Fulham on September 20. Dorgu picked up a hamstring injury while playing for Denmark during the last international break. That injury forced him to miss United's last six matches in all competitions.
Defensive Struggles
Dorgu returning to the squad gives Carrick a clear option on the left side of defense. Luke Shaw is still sidelined with an injury and was absent from Monday's session at Carrington.
Shaw's injury forced Carrick to make changes in their recent match. He had to field right back Diogo Dalot as a makeshift left back during United's 2-0 loss against Chelsea on Saturday. Marcus Rashford was another key player missing from training on Monday because he is currently struggling with a hip issue.
Pressure Mounting on United
United host Italian side Roma at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening. They enter the Champions League tie in terrible form, having failed to win any of their last nine matches.
The continuous poor run of results has put significant pressure on Carrick. The United board is set to evaluate the 45 year old head coach and his position during the upcoming international break.
Big Week at Old Trafford
The match against Roma is part of a massive week for the club. After facing Roma, United will play Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Sunday in their final game before the November break begins.
United are struggling severely in domestic football. They sit in 17th place in the Premier League table, remaining above the relegation places purely on goal difference.
