Another Setback for Brooks

The Carolina Panthers have received some tough news regarding their running game. Rookie running back Jonathon Brooks is expected to undergo surgery on Wednesday. The surgery is to repair a core muscle injury, and sources say he is set to miss at least six weeks of action.

To make space on the roster, the Panthers will place the running back on injured reserve. This means he will be out of action for a while, which is a big blow for the team's offensive depth.

How the Injury Happened

The injury occurred during the fourth quarter of the Panthers' dominant 34-3 victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. Brooks had to leave the game, and the team initially described the issue as a groin injury.

This groin trouble is not entirely new for Brooks. He also dealt with a groin issue during the preparation for the season opener against the Chicago Bears. His health has been a constant concern since he entered the league.

A Difficult Start in the NFL

Brooks was selected in the second round of the 2024 NFL draft, but he has struggled to stay on the field. He has played in only five career NFL games so far. This limited playing time comes after he had to undergo back to back right ACL surgeries.

During the Panthers' first two games of this season, Brooks rushed nine times for 30 yards. His absence means Chuba Hubbard will continue to lead the backfield. Hubbard has already taken the majority of the rushing workload this season, rushing 22 times for 102 yards and scoring one touchdown.
