Padres Fight Back
The San Diego Padres avoided playoff elimination on Tuesday night with a hard fought 4-3 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers. Jake Cronenworth hit a tiebreaking home run to help trim Milwaukee lead in the best of five series to 2-1.
Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado drove in early runs for San Diego. William Contreras homered and picked up three hits for the Brewers, who left 11 runners on base during the contest.
Late Drama on the Mound
San Diego played without star closer Mason Miller, who went on the paternity list shortly before the first pitch. Game 1 starter Michael King stepped up to pitch the final two innings just two days after throwing five innings.
King ran into trouble in the ninth inning after walking William Contreras and Brice Turang. Christian Yelich hit a line drive up the middle, but shortstop Xander Bogaerts fielded it on a short hop, touched second base, and threw to first for a game ending double play.
