Pre-game talk leads to on-field action
Before Sunday, the Packers stayed quiet about remarks made by Bears receiver Luther Burden III last week. Burden said his team wanted to beat them and make them quit. After the 31-7 win at Lambeau Field, veteran linebacker Zaire Franklin spoke out about those comments. Franklin said that guys who never really made a real play in this league talk about making somebody quit. He added that Burden quit during the game and did not want to play anymore. Burden finished with six catches for 47 yards while playing with Tyson Bagent at quarterback because Caleb Williams was injured. Burden did not speak with reporters after the match.
Packer receiver Christian Watson noted that they flipped the situation around. The victory brought the Packers to a 3-2 record, tying them with the Bears in the NFC North. Both teams chase the first-place Vikings, who sit at 5-0. The rematch is scheduled for Christmas Day in Chicago, but the first meeting left a lasting impression.
Aggressive play calling and big stats
Packers coach Matt LaFleur kept his focus internal during the week, but his play calling was very aggressive. Quarterback Jordan Love threw deep shot after deep shot. Love had five completions of at least 30 yards, matching a record held by Ben Roethlisberger. Love also became the first Packer since Brett Favre in 2003 to record four or more completions of at least 40 yards in a single game.
Watson caught six passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns. Matthew Golden also grabbed six catches for 123 yards. During the game, a chippy moment occurred when Bears kicker Cairo Santos tried to trip Golden on the sideline. Golden confirmed that Santos did indeed try to trip him. Meanwhile, LaFleur maintained his professional stance after winning his first 11 games over the Bears as Packers coach.
