Packers Stand By Jacobs

The Green Bay Packers are sticking with running back Josh Jacobs despite additional allegations of physical and verbal abuse against multiple women. These claims date back several years before the May incident that led to his arrest.

The team became aware of the previous allegations only after police records were released last week. Those records indicated three women came forward after Jacobs was arrested earlier this year.

Waiting on the NFL

Packers coach Matt LaFleur spoke to reporters on Monday about the situation. He stated that the team will allow the league to handle the situation while keeping the player on the roster.

"We're going to allow the NFL to do its process, but I would anticipate him being a member of us moving forward," Matt LaFleur said. He added that he is not going to get into details about why the team is standing by the running back.

Legal History and Return

Jacobs attorneys released a statement on Sunday calling the previous claims unsupported and stale allegations. This followed the release of records by the Hobart/Lawrence Police Department regarding a May 23 incident at his home near Green Bay.

Jacobs pleaded no contest to two misdemeanor charges in September. He was convicted of battery and fined $1,000, and agreed to a deferred judgment agreement on a charge of damage to property. The Packers supported him through the process and returned him to the field in Week 7 after he came off the commissioner exempt list.

On Field Action

LaFleur also spoke with Jacobs about his touchdown celebration against the Carolina Panthers on Thursday night. Jacobs put his hands behind his back during the celebration, which he later explained was an ode to a gospel song and had nothing to do with his legal case.

The Packers currently have the worst rushing offense in the NFL. In his first two games back, Jacobs has 32 carries for 75 yards and one rushing touchdown, along with 11 catches for 68 yards and two receiving touchdowns. The NFL has not yet closed its investigation.
