Odell Beckham Jr. Added to Vikings Roster Ahead of Saints Matchup

The Minnesota Vikings have brought receiver Odell Beckham Jr. onto their main roster from the practice squad for Sunday's match against the New Orleans Saints. However, the team has not made a final decision on whether the veteran receiver will suit up for the game.

Head coach Kevin O'Connell stated on Friday that Beckham's status will depend on the health of receivers Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison. Neither Jefferson nor Addison took part in a full day of practice last week, and both were listed as questionable on Friday's injury report. Jefferson is dealing with a sprained left ankle suffered in Week 3, which caused him to miss Week 4.

Injury issues and background

Minnesota signed Beckham on Wednesday while dealing with injuries to their receiving corps. Their third receiver, Jauan Jennings, has caught only two passes on four targets during his first season with the team. Even with an offense that ranks among the worst in the NFL, the Vikings have started the season 4-0.

O'Connell was the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams in 2021 when Beckham played in a game just three days after signing. The coach noted that Beckham could learn key parts of the system quickly if the team needs him on the field.

The 33 year old receiver recently played 19 snaps over three games with the New York Giants without recording a catch. He was selected with the 12th overall pick in 2014 and spent his first five seasons with that franchise. Before returning this season, he last played in 2024 for the Miami Dolphins, catching nine passes for 54 yards. He has also played for the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens, and holds career stats of 575 catches for 7,987 yards and 59 touchdowns.
