Forest Stun Second Place City
Nottingham Forest earned a massive 3-1 victory over Manchester City at the City Ground. The result handed Enzo Maresca his third consecutive Premier League defeat as City fell further behind league leaders Arsenal.
Forest began the day in the relegation zone, having won just once in nine matches under new manager Oliver Glasner. This impressive performance moved Forest out of the bottom three and dropped Manchester United into the danger area.
Liam Delap Haunts Former Club
Former Manchester City striker Liam Delap was the star of the match, scoring twice against his old team. Delap spent his early career at City, where he played only two Premier League matches before making a club record move from Chelsea.
Delap had scored just once in his first eight games for Forest. His double on the day showed he can lead the attack effectively. Jair Cunha opened the scoring for Forest, putting the home side 2-0 up inside 20 minutes.
City Form Drops After Strong Start
Manchester City briefly threatened a comeback when Rayan Cherki scored early in the second half. However, City could not complete the turnaround.
This is the first time in two years that City have lost three straight league games. It is also the first time since September 2019 that they conceded three goals to a team starting the day in the bottom three.
City trailed at halftime in a third straight league game for the first time since 2007, before the club was taken over by Abu Dhabi United Group.
Title Race And Off Field Pressure
City started the season with seven straight victories, but they are now six points behind leaders and title holders Arsenal. City stay in second place despite the loss.
The drop in form comes alongside the club's ongoing appeal against Premier League charges. City will need to address these recent struggles to stay close to the top.
