Jackson double sinks Manchester City
Nicolas Jackson produced a strong performance to lead Aston Villa to a 2-1 victory over Manchester City. The win ended City's perfect start to the Premier League season and pushed Villa further up the standings.
The striker opened the scoring after six minutes. John McGinn pounced on an error by Marc Guehi, allowing Jackson to cut inside Elliot Anderson and beat Gianluigi Donnarumma. Manchester City equalised through Erling Haaland early in the second half, but Jackson responded on the hour mark. After exchanging passes with Ibrahim Mbaye, he fired his shot beneath Donnarumma to secure all three points.
Emery praises striker's tactical growth
Villa manager Unai Emery praised Jackson after the match, noting his huge improvement. Emery joked that early in the season Jackson was shooting so high it looked like he was playing rugby.
Emery pointed out that Jackson is now mature, confident, and demanding of himself. His double against City brings his tally to four goals in his last four league matches. He also scored three goals in the Champions League, including two during a 6-0 victory against Fenerbahce, taking his total to seven for the season. Emery highlighted his work rate, running behind defenders, and tactical understanding.
Chelsea struggle following Jackson exit
While Jackson flourished for Villa, his former club Chelsea suffered a 2-0 home loss to Tottenham Hotspur. Chelsea struggled to create chances without Joao Pedro, while Cole Palmer was sent off after picking up two quick yellow cards.
Chelsea sold Jackson in August for an initial £47.5 million. His movement and selfless running previously helped create space for Palmer in their time together. Without that focal point upfront, Chelsea looked disjointed against Spurs.
