NFL Extends Investigation Into Josh Jacobs

The NFL announced on Saturday that it will review new allegations against Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs. These claims came to light following a public records release by the Hobart and Lawrence Police Department. The league confirmed its ongoing investigation remains open and will now cover these extra reports.

Three women contacted police after hearing about Jacobs being arrested in May over a domestic violence incident. Their reports detail claims of physical and verbal abuse going back to April 2021.

Details of the May Incident and Arrest

Police documents released on Friday contained a 129 page report outlining the May 23 incident that led to the arrest of Jacobs. A woman told officers that Jacobs appeared enraged and tried to strangle or suffocate her twice during a dispute.

She stated that Jacobs prevented her from leaving the house, broke her phone, grabbed her neck, and slammed her to the ground in the garage. She lost consciousness after hitting her head on the concrete floor, later experiencing blurry vision and difficulty walking. Jacobs was pulled over on May 26 and taken into custody. He eventually pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of battery and criminal damage to property.

Response From Lawyers and Police Footage

Lawyers for Jacobs released a statement on Saturday regarding the additional claims. David Z. Chesnoff, Richard A. Schonfeld, and Clarence F. Duchac III stated that the district attorney previously reviewed these old and uncorroborated allegations. They noted that the prosecutor decided only two misdemeanor charges were justified before reaching a plea agreement. They added that Jacobs has expressed remorse and is honoring the agreement.

Police dash camera footage showed Jacobs speaking to an officer after his arrest. Jacobs said he felt the situation was unfair because he felt he did not do anything wrong. The officer explained that initial charges are referrals for the district attorney and judges to handle.
