Union fights back against bans
The NFL Referees Association stated on Tuesday that it will challenge the severity of recent suspensions given to two officials. The league suspended line judge Jeff Seeman for two games and referee Adrian Hill for one game due to unprofessional conduct.
The union argues that the punishments went beyond appropriate discipline. Scott Green, the executive director of the Referees Association, stated that accountability matters, but discipline should not be excessive or inconsistent with past precedent.
Incidents on the field
Seeman was caught on camera swearing at Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride during a game against the New York Giants. Hill yelled at Minnesota Vikings linebacker Eric Wilson and pointed for him to get away after a collision.
Green noted that officials regularly face verbal abuse from players and coaches. He added that while misconduct by officials is not excused, the league must also demand professionalism from everyone else on the field.
