The Incident on the Field
The National Football League is currently reviewing an incident involving an official who appeared to use profanity against Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride. The moment happened during Sunday's game against the New York Giants. Line judge Jeff Seeman was caught on camera during the exchange.
Calls for Accountability
The interaction occurred with just under five minutes left in the game. Officials did not call a penalty on New York player Dru Phillips for pass interference or illegal contact after he made contact with McBride before the ball arrived. Arizona had to punt, and the Giants eventually won the match 36-24 following a late interception return.
Following the game, NFL Players Association executive director JC Tretter posted his thoughts on social media. He called for the league to hold the official accountable. Tretter wrote that this kind of behavior from an official towards a player is unacceptable. He added that players are consistently held accountable when roles are reversed, and the union expects the league to hold officials to the same standard. The NFL Referees Association did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
