The New York Mets have made a big decision about their leadership. The team announced on Tuesday that they have removed the interim tag from manager Andy Green. He has signed a three year contract that will keep him in charge of the team through the 2029 season.

Green took over the team after Carlos Mendoza was fired at the end of June. Since he took charge, the Mets have avoided a complete collapse. Instead, they put up a respectable 37-38 record under his guidance. Young talents like Carson Benge and Nolan McLean have also shown great progress.

From the front office to the dugout

Before stepping into the dugout, Green worked as the vice president of player development. David Stearns, the Mets president of baseball operations, had originally stated that Green would return to his front office role after the season ended. However, plans changed as Green proved his worth.

Owners Steve and Alex Cohen praised the new manager in a statement. They said that Green brought discipline, accountability, and positivity to the clubhouse. They also noted that he pushed the players to perform despite a disappointing season.

Green has previous managerial experience in Major League Baseball. He managed the San Diego Padres for nearly four seasons from 2016 to 2019, finishing with a 274-366 record. He admitted that he did not expect the interim job to become permanent, but said his passion for the players made it clear this was where he could make the biggest impact.
