New Contract for John Konchar
The New York Knicks have made a new addition to their squad for the upcoming basketball season. Free agent forward John Konchar has agreed to a one year contract with the franchise. The agreement was made public by George S. Langberg of GSL Sports Group, who is the agent representing Konchar.
The 30 year old forward was one of the most experienced free agents left on the market. His decision to join the Knicks brings a veteran presence to the team.
Career History in the NBA
This move to New York marks the start of Konchar's eighth season playing in the NBA. He has built up a lot of experience over the years, having played in more than 360 games in the league.
Konchar spent the majority of his professional career with the Memphis Grizzlies. He played his first six seasons in the league with Memphis. However, his time there ended during the 2025 to 2026 season when he was traded midseason to the Utah Jazz. Because of this trade, he played for both Memphis and Utah during that single season.
Recent Statistics with Utah
During his time with the Utah Jazz last season, Konchar played in 26 games. He was able to put up decent numbers during his short run with the team after the trade.
In those 26 appearances for Utah, the forward averaged 5.9 points per game. He also recorded an average of 3.0 assists per game. In addition to his scoring and passing, Konchar averaged 5.7 rebounds per game during his time on the court for the Jazz.
Roster Spots and Training Camp
The addition of Konchar does not mean the Knicks are finished building their roster. The team still has two open roster spots left to fill.
There is expected to be a competitive battle during training camp as players fight to secure one of these remaining spots. Meanwhile, the Knicks are also thinking about potentially keeping their 15th roster spot open for the season.
