New York Jets Trade Deadline Outlook and Team Drama

The New York Jets face key decisions as the November 10 trade deadline approaches with a 2-5 record.

Stand Pat or Make Moves

New York Jets general manager Darren Mougey has completed 14 trades in 14 months. The team holds a 2-5 record heading into the November 10 trade deadline. Fans might expect another major clear out, but the Jets are leaning toward standing pat this year.

Wide receiver Garrett Wilson made news recently due to his frustration over targets. Wilson told reporters he will not ask for a trade despite the recent losses. Running back Breece Hall is also unlikely to move six months after signing a three year extension worth $43.5 million. Hall missed four games with a quadriceps injury after suffering a strained groin during training camp.

Potential Trade Candidates on the Roster

Some players could still move before the deadline. Edge rusher Will McDonald IV has recorded two sacks and four quarterback hits this season. He carries a guaranteed $13.8 million figure for 2027. Former Jets coach Jeff Ulbrich is now defensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons and might want pass rush help.

Cornerback Nahshon Wright stated he is open to a trade after failing to play a defensive snap on his one year contract worth $3.5 million. Cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr. was fined and scratched last week for missing mandatory meetings. Safety Andre Cisco lost his starting spot in preseason to Dane Belton and could attract interest. The team also has five tight ends, making Jeremy Ruckert or Jelani Woods potential targets.

Coaching Challenges and Raiders Matchup

Head coach Aaron Glenn faces pressure to win now rather than accumulate future draft picks. Glenn handles head coaching duties while calling plays for the defense. Asked about managing both roles, Glenn admitted, "It's not easy. I'll be up front and tell you that." Clock management remains a problem for the team. Over 24 games under Glenn, the Jets have been outscored 107-6 in the final two minutes of the first half.

The Jets host the 3-4 Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. Quarterback Geno Smith faces his former team, with Las Vegas paying $16.3 million of his salary while New York pays $3.3 million. Adding fuel to the matchup, Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty claimed some Jets defenders do not want to tackle. Defensive back Azareye'h Thomas received a 3 a.m. text message about those comments, which sparked conversations inside the locker room.
