New York Jets Star Garrett Wilson Returns to His Natural Role

Garrett Wilson is moving back to the outside for the New York Jets as they prepare for their home opener against the Green Bay Packers.

Back to the outside

New York Jets receiver Garrett Wilson is back where he feels most comfortable. In the opening game of the season, Wilson lined up in the slot for only four out of 46 offensive plays. This is a big drop from his previous seasons, where he was in the slot 29 percent of the time. This move to the perimeter is exactly what the receiver wanted.

Wilson talked with coach Aaron Glenn and offensive coordinator Frank Reich about making the change. He explained that playing inside meant taking too many hard hits from big defenders. By moving back to the outside, he gets to play a true one on one game against cornerbacks and find more space.

The change is already working. Wilson caught six passes for 79 yards in the season opener, with five of those catches coming on the outside. He has reached 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first three seasons, and this new role could help him make even more big plays down the field.

Breaking the home opener curse

The Jets are preparing for their home opener against the Green Bay Packers. A victory would give the team its first 2-0 start since 2015. This is the second-longest active drought in the league.

Winning at home has been a struggle for the franchise recently. The Jets have won just three of their last 10 home openers. Coach Glenn is determined to change that history and make a statement. The players know the Packers are a tough opponent, but they want to earn respect by playing good football.
