Offensive struggles at home

The New Orleans Saints have endured nine straight quarters of poor offensive play in their home stadium this season. New Orleans holds a 1-4 record and recently suffered a 23-13 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Center Erik McCoy described the performance in blunt terms and admitted the unit has hit a sputtering block over the past three games. Wide receiver Devaughn Vele noted that the players and quarterback Tyler Shough were not on the same page during the game against Minnesota.

Owner Gayle Benson called the recent losses truly disappointing, particularly after the team dropped a primetime game against the Atlanta Falcons on the night they honored their 2006 squad. The Saints also lost by 10 points to Minnesota on the day they inducted former quarterback Drew Brees into their Ring of Honor. Statistics show the team has trended downward in both points and yards during each recent loss.

Mounting injuries and mistakes

The Saints are dealing with several roster issues alongside their poor form on the field. Quarterback Tyler Shough has been hit on 36 dropbacks this year and is playing with an injury to his non-throwing hand. Coach Kellen Moore stated the injury is a day-to-day matter. Meanwhile, the offense lacks immediate reinforcements because running back Travis Etienne Jr. is on injured reserve with a hamstring issue, left tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. is recovering from ankle surgery, and rookie first-round pick Jordyn Tyson remains sidelined.

New Orleans also continues to struggle with turnovers and penalties. The team has committed eight turnovers since the fourth quarter of a Week 3 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. They have rushed for 55 yards or less in their past two games, and against Minnesota, they managed only 96 passing yards. Despite these problems, players like Vele have expressed full confidence in Shough and the team's ability to bounce back.
