New Record Established
Nashville SC wrapped up their regular season in memorable style on Saturday, beating FC Cincinnati 2-0. The victory pushed the team to 77 points, setting a new single season record for the most points earned in Major League Soccer history.
Entering the final match day, Nashville were level with the previous mark of 74 points. That record was set in 2024 by Inter Miami during the first full season featuring Argentine star Lionel Messi. Nashville needed a win to clear that bar, and they delivered in front of their fans.
Top scorer Sam Surridge proved to be the hero of the second half. He found the net twice to secure the win, bringing his personal goal tally for the season to 21 goals. His 20th and 21st goals of the campaign made certain that Nashville would take sole possession of the points record.
Outstanding Defensive Record
Achieving 77 points was not the only historic milestone Nashville achieved during this campaign. The club also set a new MLS record for the fewest goals conceded in a single regular season.
Over the course of their 34 regular season games, Nashville allowed their opponents to score just 25 goals. Their defensive stability provided the foundation for their success all year long.
The team also displayed incredible consistency across every competition they entered. The 2020 expansion side managed to complete the entire campaign without losing back to back matches at any point. That streak held true across MLS matches, the Leagues Cup, and the Concacaf Champions Cup.
Form and Home Advantage for the Playoffs
Nashville now head into the postseason in excellent form. The team secured the Supporters Shield trophy two weeks ago, an award given to the club with the best overall regular season record.
They will enter the playoffs carrying a 10 game unbeaten run. Much of that momentum comes from an extraordinary record at home. Nashville finished the regular season with 15 wins, zero losses, and two draws on home turf, outscoring visiting teams by 48 goals to 14.
Because of their top finish, Nashville will enjoy homefield advantage throughout the entire playoff run as they look to build on their historic regular season.
