Clutch plays in early season wins
Nakobe Dean has quickly become a leader for the Las Vegas Raiders defense. Through the first two weeks, the linebacker has made big stops and helped guide the team to a 2-0 start.
In the Week 2 win over the Los Angeles Chargers, Dean stopped Omarion Hampton on third and 2 in the fourth quarter to force a punt. Later in that quarter, Dean punched the ball loose from Hampton to secure the 17-14 victory.
Safety Jeremy Chinn said that Dean has been the glue to the defense, making a big difference in both the front and back end. Edge rusher Maxx Crosby also praised Dean, calling him a player the team can rely on in the biggest moments.
A new look at linebacker
The Raiders signed Dean to a three year, $36 million deal in the offseason after he chose Las Vegas over Dallas. Dean previously spent four years with the Philadelphia Eagles, winning a Super Bowl in 2024 after winning a national title at Georgia in 2021.
Dean and Quay Walker have changed the Raiders inside linebacker room. Dean has produced 15 tackles, 1.5 sacks, four pressures, and two forced fumbles so far. When rushing the passer, he has recorded a 66.7 percent pressure rate across six pass rush snaps.
The Raiders currently lead the league with eight sacks and rank first in pressure rate at 50 percent. Dean has also been important against the run. Las Vegas allows only 3.7 rushing yards per attempt when Dean is on the field, but that number rises to 11 yards per carry when he is on the sidelines.
