Trouble in the capital
Real Madrid find themselves trailing league leaders Barcelona by six points after seven games. Barcelona have won seven out of seven and boast a plus twenty four goal difference. Meanwhile, Kylian Mbappé posted a video of himself riding a bike despite manager José Mourinho stating publicly that players must avoid cycling due to injury risks. Mourinho has been back at the club for three months and faces a challenging run of five matches before the Clásico at Camp Nou on October 25.
Form and defence concerns
Vinícius Júnior has scored just one goal in eight games this season and struggled to make an impact in recent outings. Mourinho insisted last month that the forward is physically strong and that the goals will come. At the back, Real Madrid have managed only one clean sheet in eight LaLiga matches. Despite heavy spending on defenders over the past two summers, the team continues to leak goals and opponents are easily targeting their left side.
Referee complaints
Mourinho has also been vocal about refereeing decisions. After the Madrid derby, he criticized referee Miguel Ángel Ortiz Arias for failing to show red cards to two Atlético players. While the technical refereeing committee later admitted a mistake was made, Mourinho has repeatedly hinted at deeper issues within the league's officiating setup.
