Scouting for a new venue
Major League Baseball is looking at unique places to hold future games. The league has approached the Trump administration about hosting a baseball game inside a national park.
The White House confirmed that the league asked about this idea. However, the National Park Service has not yet granted a permit for such an event.
The White House stated that the project is not being driven by the administration. "This is not a Presidential directive, nor is it being directed by the White House," the statement said. "Therefore, this is not a White House or Administration priority."
Looking at Grand Teton
Despite the White House downplaying the idea, some steps have already been taken. Officials have scouted locations in Grand Teton National Park, which is located in northwest Wyoming, to build a temporary baseball park.
Frank Lands, the deputy director of the National Park Service, visited Grand Teton National Park recently. He looked at three potential locations where a game could be held within the boundaries of the park. Lands declined to comment on the matter.
An anonymous league official confirmed that playing in a national park is just one of several ideas the league is currently considering.
When could the game happen?
Baseball fans should not expect a game in a national park anytime soon. The schedule for the 2027 season is already released. It includes games at the Field of Dreams and the Little League Classic in August. This means a national park game is unlikely to happen until at least 2028.
The league has expanded its use of special single game sites over the last ten years. They played at Alabama's Rickwood Field in 2024 and inside the Bristol Motor Speedway in 2025. They also returned for the Field of Dreams game and the Little League Classic this year.
The plans come at a time of change for the National Park Service. The administration has made major budget and staffing cuts, and has looked into selling or giving park land to private developers. For now, the baseball game remains just an idea.
