Record Breaking First Pitch
Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski made history on Friday night with his very first throw of the World Series. The 24 year old right hander threw a 103.5 mph fastball to Yandy Díaz of the Tampa Bay Rays.
The stadium videoboards originally showed the pitch at 103.4 mph. However, the Statcast system from MLB confirmed the higher speed of 103.5 mph. Misiorowski broke the previous World Series record set by Aroldis Chapman. Chapman threw a 103.2 mph pitch for the Chicago Cubs in Game 2 of the 2016 series against Cleveland.
New Mark For Starters
Misiorowski easily surpassed the record for starting pitchers in the World Series since tracking began in 2008. The old mark belonged to Noah Syndergaard of the New York Mets. Syndergaard threw a 101.1 mph pitch against Kansas City in Game 3 of the 2015 series.
Despite giving up two hits in the first inning on Friday night, the young Milwaukee pitcher managed to leave both runners stranded without giving up any runs.
Dominant Speed All Season
High speed pitching has been a big part of Misiorowski's game since making his debut in June 2025. He threw 1,115 pitches at 100 mph or faster this year. That comfortably broke the old mark of 673 pitches set by Jordan Hicks for St. Louis in 2018.
His fastest pitch of the entire year reached 105.5 mph against Pete Crow-Armstrong of the Chicago Cubs on June 27. That was close to the regular season record of 105.8 mph set by Chapman for Cincinnati against San Diego in 2010.
Unstoppable Postseason Run
Misiorowski has been throwing fast throughout this postseason. In the Division Series and League Championship Series, he threw 100 mph or faster on 96 out of 182 pitches.
On October 3, he set a record for the fastest pitch in postseason history. He threw a 104.8 mph pitch to Fernando Tatis Jr. of San Diego on the first pitch of the NLDS opener. That beat the previous record of 104.5 mph set by Mason Miller last year.
