Historic First Title For Milwaukee
The Milwaukee Brewers captured the first World Series championship in the 57 year history of their franchise on Wednesday night. They beat the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 at Tropicana Field in Game 5 to cap an impressive 11-2 run through the postseason.
Thousands of Milwaukee fans travelled over 1,300 miles to Florida to watch their team win. The Brewers reached the final round after winning a tight wild card series against San Diego and sweeping past the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series.
Misiorowski And Bullpen Hold Firm
Starting pitcher Jacob Misiorowski delivered a strong performance on the mound. He threw fastballs over 100 mph and gave up no runs through five innings, recording two strikeouts and allowing only four baserunners.
A cramp in his right calf forced Misiorowski to exit with two outs in the sixth inning. The Milwaukee bullpen came in to protect the lead, with JoJo Romero, Abner Uribe, and Trevor Megill conceding just one run over the final 3 1/3 innings. The bullpen finished October with a 1.34 ERA.
Offense Takes Charge Early
Rookie shortstop Cooper Pratt gave Milwaukee the lead in the second inning with a single off Tampa Bay starter Drew Rasmussen. Pratt hit another single in the fifth inning and scored on a base hit from David Hamilton.
In the sixth inning, William Contreras hit a double before Pratt added a sacrifice fly to bring in two more runs off the Rays relievers. Contreras was named the 2026 World Series MVP for his overall play, while Christian Yelich, Jackson Chourio, and Brice Turang all played major roles in the attack.
Overcoming Past Disappointments
Milwaukee won 103 regular season games this year, which was the highest total in Major League Baseball for the second year in a row. They achieved this success despite having the 19th highest payroll and ranking 28th in home runs.
Manager Pat Murphy and front office leader Matt Arnold led the team to success after years of close calls. The Brewers had made the playoffs seven times in the last eight years but kept falling short, including NLCS losses in 2018 and 2025. This victory marks their first title since the franchise was founded.
