Massive Win in Game 3

The Milwaukee Brewers produced a brilliant performance on Monday night, defeating the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 at Tropicana Field. The victory places Milwaukee 3-0 up in the World Series, leaving them just one win away from their first championship in franchise history.

After two close one run games in Milwaukee, the visitors took total control in Florida. Milwaukee collected 16 hits off Tampa Bay pitcher Freddy Peralta and five relievers. They have now won eight postseason games in a row, including four consecutive victories on the road.

The Eight Run Inning

The game was decided during a massive fifth inning. Milwaukee scored eight runs, setting a postseason record with seven consecutive hits with two outs.

Peralta, who previously played for Milwaukee, struggled against his former team. He left the game after giving up five runs and seven hits over four and two thirds innings. Milwaukee capitalised on every opportunity, with Brice Turang, Garrett Mitchell, Cooper Pratt, Sal Frelick, David Hamilton, and Jackson Chourio all driving in runs during the rally. Chourio finished the night four for five at the plate. He became the second youngest player with four hits and a stolen base in a World Series game after Ty Cobb in 1908.

Dominant Pitching Performance

Rookie starter Robert Gasser gave Milwaukee an outstanding performance on the mound. The left handed pitcher allowed only one hit and faced the minimum 18 batters through six innings.

Gasser became the first left handed pitcher to achieve that feat in a World Series game since Sandy Koufax in 1965. He allowed a single to Yandy Diaz in the first inning and then retired 14 batters in a row before walking Victor Mesa Jr in the sixth. Gasser has now allowed just one run in 15 innings across three postseason road starts.

One Step From the Title

Tampa Bay led the American League with 98 wins during the regular season, but they now face an almost impossible task. Out of 43 teams in postseason history to fall behind 3-0, only the 2004 Boston Red Sox managed to come back and win the series.

Milwaukee, who led the majors with 103 regular season wins, can complete the sweep in Game 4 on Tuesday night. Led by 67 year old manager Pat Murphy, the franchise is on the verge of ending its long title wait. Out of 25 teams that took a 3-0 lead in World Series history, 21 went on to complete a sweep.
