Big Wins and Strong Bullpen
The Milwaukee Brewers secured a 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series opener on Sunday night at American Family Field. Brice Turang hit a home run, and the Milwaukee bullpen held off the visitors after a tough start from Jacob Misiorowski.
Luis Lara provided the winning moment in the fifth inning. Garrett Mitchell walked, Cooper Pratt moved him forward with a sacrifice bunt, and Lara hit a single into center field to score Mitchell off Dodgers pitcher Tarik Skubal.
Relievers Lock Down Dodgers
Misiorowski, the favorite for the NL Cy Young Award, needed 35 pitches in the second inning alone. Andy Pages singled to drive in Shohei Ohtani for the Dodgers, but Misiorowski got Enrique Hernandez to ground into a double play to limit the damage.
Milwaukee used four relievers to finish the game. DL Hall came on in the fifth inning and got Freddie Freeman to ground into a double play in front of 42,617 fans. Abner Uribe struck out Pages in the sixth, Aaron Ashby pitched two scoreless frames, and Trevor Megill earned the save in the ninth.
Dodgers Struggle to Convert Opportunities
Los Angeles grounded into three double plays and left nine runners on base. They went 1 for 6 with runners in scoring position and managed just two hits against Milwaukee relievers.
The ninth inning brought tension when Kyle Tucker and pinch hitter Josue De Paula walked with two outs. Trevor Megill secured the win when Mookie Betts flied out to the warning track in center field.
The victory ended Milwaukee's seven game postseason losing streak against the Dodgers. Game 2 takes place on Monday in Milwaukee. Yoshinobu Yamamoto will start for Los Angeles against Logan Henderson for the Brewers.
