Historic Celebration in Milwaukee
The Milwaukee Brewers celebrated their first World Series championship with a parade and rally in downtown Milwaukee on Friday. City officials expected around 400,000 fans to fill the streets and cheer for the team. The massive turnout followed the Brewers securing the title with a 4-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday, winning the series in five games.
It was the franchise's first appearance in the World Series in 44 years. The long wait made the day special for supporters across the city. Milwaukee Public Schools even canceled classes so young fans and their families could take part in the celebrations.
Players and Legends Share the Stage
Players and staff celebrated on top of buses along the parade route before heading to a rally near Lake Michigan. Team captain Christian Yelich told the crowd he took the trophy to the face and got a black eye during the party. World Series MVP William Contreras thanked the fans for their support, saying the team won the trophy for the city.
Relief pitcher Aaron Ashby, who set a major league record by throwing 18 consecutive scoreless relief innings during the postseason, called the day the most special moment of his life. Former players like Robin Yount, Paul Molitor, Rollie Fingers, and Ted Simmons joined the event. The team also honored legendary broadcaster Bob Uecker, who died in January 2025 at age 90 after 54 seasons with the franchise.
Festivities Started at Packers Game
The celebrations actually began on Thursday night when several players attended a Green Bay Packers game at Lambeau Field. Pitcher Brandon Woodruff walked out of the tunnel holding the championship trophy to a loud reaction from the crowd. Players wore special cheesehead hats with the message 2026 WS Champions, and outfielder Sal Frelick performed a leap into the stands.
Manager Pat Murphy admitted he was amazed by the sheer number of people lining the streets on Friday. The victory marks the first baseball championship for the city of Milwaukee since the Braves won the World Series in 1957.
