Millwall and West Ham Battle to Dramatic Draw in Fierce Dockers Derby

The Return of a Fierce Rivalry

Millwall and West Ham faced each other for the first time in 14 years in a highly anticipated Dockers Derby. The Metropolitan Police deployed 400 officers and 12 horses around the stadium to keep the peace. While the streets outside felt quiet before the match, the atmosphere inside The Den quickly heated up once the game kicked off.

The historic rivalry dates back to the 1926 General Strike, and the tension was clear from the start. West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen was targeted by home fans during the warmups, setting the stage for an intense afternoon of football.

Millwall Take Control

Millwall manager Alex Neil saw his team start with great energy. Caleb Taylor opened the scoring in the 16th minute, poking the ball home from close range in front of the West Ham fans. The home crowd went wild, and their joy doubled just before half time.

Camiel Neghli scored Millwall's second goal right at the stroke of half time to make it 2-0. At that point, Millwall looked to be in complete control of the match, while West Ham struggled to find their rhythm.

West Ham Fight Back

West Ham showed why they are considered one of the top teams in the division. The visitors mounted a strong second half comeback to rescue a point. Konstantinos Mavropanos scored an 80th minute goal, and substitute Mohamadou Kante also scored from distance to level the match.

However, Kante went from hero to villain when he was sent off late in the match. Millwall tried to use their one man advantage in the final minutes but ran out of time to find a winning goal. The match ended 2-2.

There was also post match drama as Millwall goalkeeper Filip Marschall accused West Ham forward Taty Castellanos of spitting.

Managers Proud of the Spectacle

Despite the dropped points, Millwall boss Alex Neil was proud of his team's effort in such a passionate fixture. "I told the players prior to the game that this game's a real rarity and as a player and as a manager, it's a privilege to be part of it," Neil said.

The draw shows both teams have plenty to play for this season. West Ham look like a Premier League level squad, while Millwall showed they have the heart to challenge for a playoff spot.
